Church of the Holy Apostles Peter and Paul was built on Smolyanka in Donetsk in 1910. During the revolution the church was closed. After more than eighty years, the building of Donetsk temple seized from Orthodox believers. In the 90 years the church was engaged in the ministry banned the former priest Yuri Yurchik. Temple has been selected by fraud and turned into a " Cathedral of the Transfiguration." Then began the trials. |

His name Svyato-Preobrazhenskiy Cathedral in Donetsk was in honor of the Christian feast of the Transfiguration, which is celebrated on August 19. Construction of the Svyato-Preobrazhenskiy Cathedral began in 1997. The church is the cathedral in the Donetsk Diocese. In 2002 at the entrance to the cathedral was a bronze statue of Archangel Michael which was donated by the authorities of Kiev Donetsk. |

The first written mention of the present Holy Assumption Monastery Svyatogorsk still refer to the first half of the XVI century. Abode underwent repeated raids and the devastation of the Crimean Tatars. During the reign of Catherine II the monastery was abolished. But since 1844 Sviatohirsk monastery was restored, and thanks to the works of the abbot and monks became one of the largest monasteries in Russia Empire. |
