Since the beginning of XIX century, administrative and cultural center of Chernigov is Red Square.
Red Square appeared on the map at the turn of Chernigov XVIII and XIX centuries. Earlier this place was called Pyatnitsky field. The name comes from the area of the nearby church of St. Paraskeva-Friday, built at the end of XII century. In XVII century when it existed Nunnery.
